Many will know that " with you" is translated as contigo.

Twice this week I have heard contí from the mouths of Spaniards. The R.A.E. view is that the word does not exist but is it "wrong" as I have always been taught, new street slang, Murcian(?) dialect or or or ....?

To be more exact once contí is in a Spanish hit that seems to be playing 24/7 so it MIGHT be for rhyme but the other was a footballer being interviewed and so badly did it grate the ear that I was ready for when he said it again.

It's a fashion amongst "the young" to cut words short, for example:

"el finde" (El fin de semana)
"porfa" (Por favor)
"compa" (compañero)

and most annoying of all "sssss" for "sí"

There's more but I can't remember them off hand. I'm sure that's what the "conti" business is though.

Yes.
When listening to Michel Thomas he says that " conmigo" is the only such construction.

Then I keep hearing this Spanish Chanteusse singing a ballad which ends " ...contigo."

I had thought that I must be listening to Spanish as she is spoke, rather than Mr Thomas, the late, great Mr Thomas, having messed up.

This one I have definitely heard among the not-quite-so-young!! I soon cured him of it though as I found it irritating

Conmigo means "with me" and contigo means "with you". Apart from these there is also consigo (usually combined with the word mismo to make consigo mismo meaning "with oneself".

Michel Thomas is inclined to be too categorical at times. Another favourite of his is to say that every word can only have one stress. This is quite untrue as longer words have primary and secondary stresses.
