All smiles now, he was probably just overtired
Yaya Toure has ended speculation over his future by confirming that he will stay at Manchester City after the club apologised for not adequately acknowledging his birthday, took him to Disney World and bought him a balloon.
The current African footballer of the year had fuelled speculation that he may leave after a row over the club’s owners ignoring his birthday, but after Manuel Pellegrini cut short his own holiday to take Toure to Orlando all seems to have been forgiven.
“Yaya was very upset, as you would be if your employer did not make a big fuss over your birthday and maybe buy you an expensive gift.”, explained Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, “This is not about money, this is about respect. He was given a cake but no party, no jelly and ice cream, no paper hats. A cake is not enough. Besides, the cake had red jam in it and Yaya wanted chocolate cake. And it was the wrong shape.”
Arsenal, keen to strengthen their squad and build on their recent FA Cup success, were reported to be ready to take advantage of the situation and had offered the midfielder a party with a bouncy castle if he moved to the Emirates.
City boss Pellegrini responded quickly with the trip to Disney World, and even paid for Extra Magic Hours so Toure could get on the most popular rides before the park got busy. That, combined with a Mickey Mouse balloon and an autograph from Buzz Lightyear, has convinced the Ivory Coast international that his future lies with the Premier League champions.
“Of course he’s staying now, he got to meet Mickey Mouse and Buzz Lightyear. What 31 year-old millionaire wouldn’t be happy with that?” confirmed Seluk, “The extra fifty grand a week helped a little too, but this was mostly about respect. And nothing says respect like a man in a giant mouse costume.”
