A pal tells me that new students are being taught to say treinta dos, treinta tres and not treinta y cuatro etc.

Does anyone know if this is true, another i griega becoming ye type change?

Just asked my son - he says for every number after 30 they still have the 'y', but when he says the numbers the y is almost unheard, but it is there.

I'm sure Macanna will give the official line but that's the answer from a 10 year old!

Back in the day, even twenty one was said as veinte y uno. Many, many years ago it changed to veintiuno. Up until about 30 years ago, the treinta numbers were all treinta y uno etc. That changed to treintiuno and so on. I remember my Spanish teacher back in 1981 telling us this was now becoming more common. Above the 30s, the numbers are still split.

Me too.
