Torrevieja seems to have some serious flooding. This picture on Diario Informacion looks to me to be opposite the 3 little ducks at Los Locos. Buses not running and lots of roads and stores closed.

This weather system is called a DANA or depresion aislada a nivel alta. Or in English an isolated depression at high level. It is a real gota fría.

It`s always bad there in heavy rain as is other parts of Torrevieja.

Yes those drains at that junction can't cope at all with heavy rain and the underground garages of the apartment block at the front of the El Pameral community always flood completely. Definitely the worse Gota Fria we have been through in many years.

Great pyrotechnics. Some areas got very little rain and others got torrents. Still despite the leaks and floods it is always welcome.

I don`t think that the parts of Spain devastated by the floods would agree with that sentiment.
The citizens of Oriheula have just been told to leave their cars and evacuate upstairs to the next floor or higher in the house if possible because the Rio Segura is going to burst it`s banks very shortly. !!

Yes I was sent a video by friends staying down in La Zenia where the beach was washed away. Hardly surprising that it happens as we are paying a heavy price in the area for overdevelopment, houses built on flood plains and dry riverbeds filled in to facilitate house building and little or no proper drainage infrastructure to cope with these events. We can hardly blame the rain or the weather for this lack of foresight and greed. I see in the papers where the last remaining piece of urban at La Hoya in Torrevieja is earmarked for some 7000 houses. It will only get worse.
