I don't think there is any surprise in the figures from AENA contained in this article.

With airlines not transfering all their routes from San Javier to Corvera, a reduction in flights would equal reduction in passenger numbers at Corvera unless new airlines were attracted to open routes to the region.

We fly to Liverpool and Newcastle airports and neither of them have flights into corvera, hopefully more airlines will take up routes into it.

Travelling from the north (Torrevieja), it looks a lot further than the old San Javier airport. Does it take much longer?

Ryanair have announced that from 6th November all 2019 winter season flights to and from East Midlands and Luton to Corvera will cease. Existing reservations are being transferred to Alicante flights.
