Ourselves, as well as other reputable businesses place adverts on this forum.

In recent times we have been made aware on a number of ocassions when we have posted up a thread of offer / service, that certain forum members have been trying to 'poach business'.

There are individuals, which deliberately seek / trawl local forums looking for any threads / posts where they can pick up business / sell you potentially dodgy service or equipment.

These are not registered workers or companies, do not pay for advertising, one day a plumber on one forum, next day a sat expert, next day they can fix your PC, whilst being an estate agent......Not genuine forum members, though they try to appear to be....

1. Paying advertisers have their advertising response reduced, this pays towards the forum. Due to issues such as this can drive advertisers away. This has already been cause for discussions.

2. We have a real business to run. Staff, social, vans, insurance etc. Expert Support and ongoing advice. We cannot compete with illegal workers. If we charged any less, we would not have staff or a business.

3. Some of our employees are in the highest unemployment group 18-25 years old they work long hours, have expert training, we want to support local employment and opportunity. Continued practices such as these take money of genuine hard working individuals. 50%'of this age group is unemployed.

4. We have been here over 7 years, serviced 1000's of customers, maintain many communities and individuals. We use highly sophisticated equipment, have well trained staff and offer ongoing support via email, website and facebook freely for all our customers.

5. We are contactable, no mobile phone numbers or hotmail addresses. The equipment we supply and the service you get, will not be the same. Phone us 5 years after we installed your system and you will still get free advice.

In order to offer continued support for this forum & genuine companies which are part of the local community and do employ staff, we ask for you to take this into consideration if you are approached (spammed) pm'd by any forum member offering services / equipment, who has hopped on any post - this is not as innocent as it seems.

Please help support this forum and the advertisers / businesses & report PM poachers / spammers to gary@torrevieja.co.uk

Neil, you and Paul are very professional in your own particular fields and you both are highly recommended. Your competitors on here must be minimal surely and can be counted on one finger. :D

There is only so much that can be done, the numbers doing it is the problem and the more that do it, the more that are encouraged to join them..........
Many people will agree with you but at the same time will buy dodgy goods or use dodgy services to save 5 euro when the time comes for them to reach into their pocket.
People who say things on forums that slightly lean towards the illegal activity tend to be those who do it them selves, many will justify the reasons with statements such as it is very expensive, there only trying to earn a living and not everyone can be legal.
Yes, everyone can be legal, if you can't be legal, then you don't have a business and you are a piece of scum stealing business from people who have taken the risk, give employment to other as well as contributing to the local economy by using other legal services.
Like I said there is not a lot you can do, for everyone that stops another thinks they can do it better.
Years ago, I phoned someone who was operating an illegal taxi business and this no-mark told me that he offered a better service that me and specialised in handicap passengers as he had a people carrier fitted for a wheel chair, no license, no insurance, no regulations in regards to vehicle or driving hours etc and most of all he was cheaper.
I think shortly after, something happened to the vehicle and because he wasn't a proper business he wasn't able to do anymore transport.
If it helps you, a lot of people are not aware of what they are doing and sometimes an email or phone call makes them aware, denouncias to Guardia Civil with copy of newspaper adverts, phone numbers etc etc always works.

To help identify illegal companies / workers / poachers.

PM you in your inbox pm forums / facebook - out of the blue. Please report to forum moderator / Gary.

Companies with mobile phone numbers which start '6' not '9' which is a landline. No real business / reputable company has a mobile phone number only.

Tell tale email addresses - again any reputable company would not be a hotmail / yahoo / gmail etc account, generally would have info / sales @nameofcompany.com

Ask for paperwork / factura. If any issues, if you have nothing in writing / email - then no possibility of comeback. Even less so with a mobile phone number and hotmail address....

I must admit we had noticed the "part time" web designers "part time" builder, estate agent or whatever had dropped off considerably over the past years leaving customers with no recourse when trying to renew domains. However, this has started again but if you are good at what you do and you are established with a legal company your savvy client will care more about service and the security of consistency rather than saving a few Euros.

We run a service orientated business fully legal and registered (you can even check my EU IVA registration online) but we only have a mobile contact. Primarily because I have it with me all the time and I get free calls to most landlines in Europe. I would think a builder, plumber etc who is on the road all the time would also prefer a mobile number but that doesn't mean they are not professional and legal.

Just by 2 pennies

Fair point made.

However would still suggest that in most instances if dealing with a professional company you would see a landline (though as you state / example a self employed builder etc it would be reasonable to see a mobile number).

Would suggest it is more a combination of 'all of the above (heeding warning signs), so if business has mobile + hotmail + not a proper website = all of the above and chances are you may not be dealing with a reputable service or company.
