Want to change battery in iPhone 5...how do I do it?

Postby Beardyboy » Wed Jan 11, 2017 10:54 am

My iPhone 5 is not holding it's charge for very long so I want to change the battery from my husband's old iPhone 5 which has a good battery in it but I am encountering all sorts of questions on screen and do not know the answers. Any suggestions please?

You can't easily swap an iphone battery, not designed to.

If you try to open it yourself, every chance you would break the phone. You can take to service centre, though in truth as phone is reasonably old and will cost to do, so not 100% sure how much would be justified.

Problem is batteries deteriorate after a couple of years and most new phones now are sealed.

If any use, there are also additional rechargeable batteries you can plug in & carry to add a little charge to the phone if going flat on the go or to keep topped up. Means carrying something else, but a cheap fix.

Something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-5200mAh- ... ry+charger

Why don't you just back-up your phone to the cloud or a PC then restore that backup to your husband's phone and swap the SIM cards. When your husband's phone is then working properly you can then do a factory reset on your phone and sell it.
If you don't feel confident doing this yourself then there are plenty of phone shops around that would do it for you.

Replacing the battery requires removal of the screen and is quite tricky, but can be done by someone who knows what they are doing with electronic devices. Once again, the local phone shop should be able to do it, but make sure you back-up your phone first, just incase they dentally damage your phone.

Here are the instructions about how to change the battery:
